That was the first look given to the class regarding the project.
The main focus for me with this project was giving the power to the player. While it was pitched as a narrative focus experience, the gameplay was essential from getting to point A to point B of that story. Using a few animation packs in the Unreal Marketplace to help show my capabilities of striving for fun gameplay and creating a visually pleasing experience no matter the age.
Games to look at for reference were the Batman Arkham Series and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The reason for this is simply due to the juicy feel of the game. Rocksteady and Platinum Games do a great job of not only making the game feel great, but they do a great job visualizing it with effects and slow-mo.
In pre-production, picking the game engine was pretty easy. Unreal Engine 4 was the answer for me simply due to the power it offers with a very small time window to achieve a look. While it wasn't a total walk in the park, it allowed me to build out two cinematics.
The story was simple, highlighting the human conflict with change. Personally, this is sometimes I tried to reject but through college, I learned it's inevitable.  So I created a character who faces such change.

The result of this was pretty successful, those who played it had plenty of fun. The most surprising and yet the most satisfying outcome was the enjoyment of those between the ages of 10-15. Classmates and adults were surprised at the capabilities of Unreal Engine, especially the combat aspect of it.
In all I learned a ton with this project. Making a fun game is a complex thing, but one thing that is simple about it is finding that fun factor. The process of making this small project highlighting visually juicy combat, scenic areas, and tells a small story was informative to me and my future as a Game Designer
